Naturally Dyed Chunky wooden bead necklace. Length 20" (51cm) with a 2.5" (6cm) extender chain. In pink, blue and pale grey with antiqued bronze spacer beads and findings. Flower beads 1" (2.5cm) approx at widest point.
Each bead has been dyed using madder, indigo and mugwort which have all been mordanted with mineral extracts to 'fix' the colour. Wax has then been applied to each bead to protect and preserve the colour further. The beads are strung on a strong but flexible cotton cord and finished with a hook and eye style clasp in antiqued bronze.

Please note: perfume and hairspray may stain or affect the finish of your beads, so we advise putting your necklace on after these have been applied and dried.

About Natural Dyes / Care Instructions:
All colours have been 'mordanted' (ie fixed) with mineral extracts, to ensure the maximum light and wash fastness available from each extract. Despite this, naturally dyes fibres may fade, darken or change slightly over the course of their lifetime. This is part of the character (some would say part of the charm) of organic matter products, and these fractional changes over a long period of time should not discourage you from using environmentally friendly yarns.
You may also find that some excess colour particles come loose during the first few washes. As I hand grind the dyestuffs, the particles vary in size and some flakes may stick to the yarn through the final rinses. This is not a dye fastness issue, but you may wish to gently rinse and dry darker colours before knitting with them.
Your finished item should be gently hand washed in warm water using a mild detergent (I like ecover or no rinse wool products such as eucalan), before being laid flat to dry. I would not recommend harsh machine washing for natural dyes.
All of our natural colours have been dyed in small batches using age-old techniques with natural products, many of which I have foraged locally from flower, vegetable and tree matter. Only one 'animal' dye is used by us; Cochineal pink, which comes from South American insects, but I have included it in the range because of the vibrancy of the colours that can be achieved with it.
International Postage Rates:
Rates for more than one item may appear costly, particularly if 3+ skeins of 50g natural dye are selected. Costs reflect Royal Mail's rates for International Standard or Signed post, however Etsy's postage calculator does not allow me to enter these precisely, so in the likelihood that postage costs less than calculated at checkout I will refund the difference. If you are unsure, please contact me before purchasing yarn, and I can provide a custom listing with exact postage for the items you have selected.
FHY accepts payment by Direct Payments, paypal and credit and debit cards through paypal. If you have bought an item by mistake convo me immediately and I will cancel and refund your payment so long as the item hasn't already been shipped.

With damaged items take a picture and attach it to a convo, we will replace all damaged items with out further charge... this hasn't happened yet! Please remember should your postie decided to sit/stamp or otherwise destroy your item it's not our fault and contact us before you leave negative feedback so we can sort this out amicably!
Should an item be returned, please note that I am unable to refund the money already paid to the post office. This is something out of my control as a small business reliant on Royal Mail. Thank you for your understanding.
